Names are very important throughout Earthsea, and characters have different names at different times through their lives, used in different contexts or by different types of people.

In the very first paragraph, we get references to the names Sparrowhawk and Ged, but for most of the first chapter, he's called his child-name, Duny. She packs an incredible amount of story into <200 pages. I think this sort of storyteller narration lends itself really well to a slim volume like AWOE. It can also seem a little like she's breaking the "show, don't tell" rule at times, for example when she tells us that Duny "grew wild, a thriving weed, a tall, quick boy, loud and proud and full of temper." But of course, we're going to be shown plenty of his proud behavior in this chapter and the next ones, so it's more show and tell. It's a very different approach from a lot of modern YA fantasy, which anchors itself to the viewpoint of the main character, often with a heavy focus on their inner monologue. Lewis's Narnia series each contains a number of asides to the reader.) Like a lot of older fantasy, especially ones aimed toward children, Le Guin takes the tone of a storyteller. The island of Gont, a single mountain that lifts its peak a mile above the storm-racked Northeast Sea, is a land famous for wizards. It keeps the maps and Robbins' chapter illustrations.

My edition has Yvonne Gilbert's cover art from 1984, although it's a later printing (with the publisher's website on the back cover) and the font has a really old-fashioned look like it's from the sixties. The cover shows Ged with (in my opinion) ambiguously dark skin. The beautiful but almost-unreadable map is Le Guin's own work (with Robbins' embellishments).
